July 11 We followed the Dempster Highway for almost 250 miles through lonely barren countryside making our way toward the Arctic Circle. Thank goodness there were reststops with necessary facilities, beautiful mountains and unfortunately starving mosquitoes. Some of the terrain was open and appeared endless and barren. In other sections the view was beautiful with more and more mountains along the road. The first photo shows Eagle Plains, about 20 miles from the edge of the Arctic Circle and that is where we spent the night. The next day we continued to the Arctic Circle. The third photo appears to have the face of an old man as part of the mountain. See if you can find him just to the right of the 3 trees in the middle. The last photo was the second day on our return trip. It was misty and rainy and many times the mountains were visible above the clouds.
