July 12 we finally reached the edge of the Arctic Circle via the Dempster Highway. Our visit was short at the monument we found there. The only residents were vicious mosquitoes. The truck was so dirty from the road dust that you could hardly tell what color it was. All along our trip through the Yukon Territory we came across the stone monuments travelers leave along the roadside. Some mean good fortune to the travelers others mark the direction. Suzy created, among the many other monuments at the Arctic Circle, her own monument for good fortune.
